Counting of votes of five state assembly elections including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Manipur begins with latest trends coming to emerge soon. While the website of the Election Commission of India will upload the counting updates on their site, television channels will also provide minute-to-minute developments of the counting. India TV, a Hindi news channel based in Noida will live stream the latest updates of counting.
The results of the Assembly elections in five states are likely to become clear by March 10 evening but the initial trend will start emerging from 8am after the counting of the postal ballots starts. TV9 Bharatvarsh, a Hindi-language news channel owned by TV9 Network, will broadcast and live stream the latest updates on the counting day.
The day before the counting was full of commotion with EVM allegations against officials in Uttar Pradesh following which three officials were removed from the election duty. Samajwadi Party alleged that EVMs were being shifted in an unauthorised manner. The nodal officer for EVMs in Varanasi, a returning officer (RO) in Sonbhadra district and an additional election officer in Bareilly district have been pulled out from election duties, a day ahead of the counting of votes in UP.
Goa Congress was accused of forcibly moving its party candidates at a resort which the party denied and said they have decided to stay together voluntarily.
Punjab Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said in view of counting of votes on Thursday, prohibitory measures under CrPC section 144 have been imposed in all districts and gathering of people outside the counting centres is prohibited. All necessary arrangements have been made for the counting, and as per instructions of the Election Commission, only two people can accompany the winning candidate or his official representative to the counting centre to collect the certificate, he said, adding that victory processions are prohibited as well.
In Uttarakhand, Congress leader Harish Rawat on Wednesday claimed that the Congress party is going to get a full majority in Uttarakhand Assembly elections. "We are sure that we are going to get a full majority. We do not have any C-plan, yes, but there are many senior leaders who have not been able to get tickets, we will take their cooperation to increase the Uttarakhand government and also for the politics of Uttarakhand," he added.
In Manipur, the BJP is confident of its return as exit polls have indicated.
