The two actors share more than just a professional history — they’ve built a decades-long friendship that began nearly 30 years ago. Diesel and Caine famously co-starred in the 2015 fantasy film The Last Witch Hunter, where Diesel played the immortal warrior Kaulder. Although Caine officially retired from acting in 2023, his bond with Diesel remains strong.

"Sometimes, you sense a connection. I just liked the guy immediately; he has a big heart. It turned out he was going through some tough times back then, so I think perhaps it made an impression upon him to be embraced and treated with love. Anyway, we’ve been great friends ever since."

Diesel celebrated his birthday on 18 July with her daughter Hania Riley and Caine and shared a post on Instagram.

Diesel also talked about his friendship with Caine in a heartfelt Instagram post on 30 June, sharing a photo of himself with Caine. Diesel wrote, “Michael and I have been close friends for decades. He came into my life after I had lost a childhood friend who became a New York City police officer and lost his life in the line of duty – one of my personal reasons for filming that infamous New York detective. Somehow, Michael’s friendship was healing and loving, and I’ve been blessed to have him in my life.”

Diesel also talked about working on a new independent project with Michael called Mark and Maurice.
