Dulquer Salmaan, who celebrates his birthday on July 28, is the son of veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty. Dulquer has appeared in numerous hit movies across languages. The actor impressed fans with his performances in films such as Charlie, Kala, Bangalore Days, OK Kanmani, and Karwaan. However, he was once referred to as 'Handsome Like Mammootty' in the film Ustaad Hotel and it left the actor cringing.
Ustaad Hotel was Dulquer Salmaan's second film. Directed by Anwar Rasheed and written by Anjali Menon, Dulquer shared the screen with Nithya Menen for the first time. In the film, a line described Dulquer's character as 'handsome like Mammootty'. Dulquer cringed because he didn't think he is as good-looking as his father.
"This is something I never got actually. Growing up, they were like, 'Really? Oh, you don’t look anything like your father!' That was the case all the time. Even when they wrote that line in the movie, I was asking the director, 'Anwar (Rasheed), should we use that line? I don’t quite buy it. I don’t think they think that way...' Now I guess they’re okay with it and I think they find it nice to hear or whatever," he told Film Companion in 2018.
"This is another reason that I didn’t know if I could make it as an actor. I always thought, 'I don’t look anything as good as my father and I don’t know if I can perform like him.' He’s very obviously manly and obviously baritone. There’s just no one like him. He’s a man’s man and I’m more boyish. I remember kind of cringing when I heard that line for the first time. Even when I was watching (this scene in Ustaad Hotel), I facepalmed," he added.

{{/usCountry}}Dulquer was last seen playing the lead in the Tamil film Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal. In Hindi, the actor was seen sharing the screen with Sonam Kapoor in The Zoya Factor. Dulquer has a few projects in the pipeline. These include the Malayalam film Kurup and Tamil film Hey Sinamika.
