This Independence Day, drench yourself in the spirit of Tiranga without looking like a human flag .

Celebrating freedom also means liberating oneself from cliches. That’s what we decided to do in this shoot. Instead of piling up saffron, white and green together in one look, we voted for stylishly patriotic outfits rather than those that look costumey. Each colour in our national flag deserves a special celebration. Here’s some inspo to show your love for the nation without turning into a walking flag.

Desi Swag

Green is the colour that symbolises our bond with the soil. Supermodel Sonalika Sahay teams this green Anavila Misra sari with her white shirt for a lighthearted twist. Her top knot, barely-there base, soft smoky eyes and nude lip colour make it a perfect on-duty look. There couldn’t be a more befitting accessory than her saffron umbrella. White stands for peace and purity. Turn on some desi swag like model Nitin Sarna who wears a white Pathani suit by Pawan Sachdeva. Green mirrored glasses tucked in his collar make his style shine.

Who knows freedom better than the bohos? Here’s a tribute to their uninhibited style. HT City journalist Snigdha Ahuja wears a white dress from Reynu Taandon’s Coachella collection. While the saffron detailing on the neck and front make it a chic patriotic pick, other colours celebrate the amazing diversity of this beautiful nation and inspire us to challenge conformity. Saffron stands for courage. HT City journalist Abhinav Verma displays fashion might in an asymmetrical saffron kurta by Shantanu & Nikhil, teamed with white dhoti pants. (Photo: Shara Ashraf/HT)
