Former England international and fashion icon, David Beckham, has endeared himself to many by sending a video message to a teenage girl suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.
According to Manchester Evening News, Chloe Hopkins, from Newton Heath, has become so ill the doctors expect her to have just two years of life left. The 19-year-old had created a list to fulfil her dreams in her final months - one of which was meeting the Manchester United football team.
In the video, Beckham, who besides endorsing fashion brands is also a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador and runs a charity named, ‘7: David Beckham Unicef Fund’ speaks to the camera in the short clip and says: “Hi Chloe, it’s David Beckham here. I heard from my friend Chris that you’re not very well so I just want to send all of my best wishes and all of my love.”
According to the Manchester paper, the girl needs a double lung transplant and has been on a waiting list since July 2015. “It still scares me to think about how limited my life is, but it is something I have had to come to terms with. Children in school used to call me Frankenstein because of the drains and plugs going into my body - but for me it was in one ear and out the other,” she was quoted as saying by the news organisation. “Even if I have the transplant, it won’t save my life. It will only prolong it. But I am determined to live whilst I’m still alive, not just sit around waiting for a call that may never come, which is why I have created a bucket list.”
