Lars Stindl’s 20th minute goal was enough to hand Germany their maiden FIFA Confederations Cup title. In the end, the reigning World Champions defeated Chile 1-0 in the final to win the dress rehearsal of the 2018 World Cup which will also be held in Russia. Chile kept trying for the next 70 minutes for an equaliser but Germany’s defence proved too much for Chile. Chile’s experienced stars could not breach the young German defence in what was a promising final in St. Petersburg on Sunday. Chile’s golden generation of players have provided enough excitement after they racked up Copa America wins in 2015 and 2016, beating Lionel Messi’s Argentina in both finals, and defeated Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on penalties in Wednesday’s Confederations Cup semifinal.
