Infantino made the comments in a wide-ranging interview Wednesday with the Fox Sports 1. He said that while the prize money for the winner doubled from the 2011 Women’s World Cup in Germany to last year’s event in Canada, it is still “very low compared to what it could be or should be.”

Infantino said it is also important to invest more in the development of the women’s game, as well as bring more women into leadership positions.

“It is about giving them what is right and what is deserved. It must be right. For this we have to discuss, we need to sit around a table and find the right solution,” he said.

The United Sates won last year’s World Cup, taking home $2 million in prize money.
