Class 10 student kidnaps younger brother for ransom in Faridabad

Police have rescued the minor boy, and are questioning four teenagers in the case.

A class 10 student in Faridabad allegedly kidnapped his younger brother and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh from his own family members for his release.

On Sunday evening, the family of the missing 12-year-old boy -- a class eight student -- received a ransom call after which the boy’s uncle informed the police.

The man told police that the boy’s mother had received the ransom call, Anil Kumar, station house officer of the Palla police station, said.

“Our officers traced the abduction to his elder brother who, along with three of his other friends, had kidnapped him for Rs 2 lakh,” Kumar said. The alleged juvenile kidnappers had kept the 12-year-old in room in Tilpat, Faridabad.

Police said that on Monday evening, the four freed the boy after reportedly sensing that police had learnt about their role. Police caught all the four teenagers, including the 16-year-old brother of the victim.

“During questioning, the victim’s brother said he and his friends had planned to kidnap his brother so that they could spend the ransom money of Rs 2 lakh,” a police officer said.

Police said the victim lives with his mother in Faridabad while his father, who has many criminal cases, hardly visits home. Police said the victim was the third among three siblings.
