Six people were trapped after a leopard entered their house in Durga Colony of Sohna locality on Thursday. The leopard was tranquillised after two failed attempts and 5-hour long drama which also drew out locals and onlookers, eager to take selfies with the leopard.
Before entering the house, the big cat had attacked a 30-year-old man Anil Kumar at around 9 am. The victim, Anil Kumar, was painting a wall at the time and received scratches on his face. He has been admitted to a local hospital.
The leopard then attacked a 6-year-old child in the street who received scratches on the chest and shoulder. The big cat then entered the house where it was first spotted on the staircase by a youth who was watching TV in an adjacent room. Shocked and alarmed, the man alerted other family members who locked themselves indoors. The family was trapped inside for 5 hours as forest officials and police conducted rescue operations.

Videos shot at the site show the distraught leopard making a last bid to escape before being tranquillised. The animal can be seen attempting to scale a gate and running across houses to find a way out. The locals can also be spotted making videos and trying to click pictures in the melee.
After two failed attempts to tranquillise the leopard, reinforcements were called. The officials were able to sedate the leopard in the third attempt. The forest officials also used a net to prevent the leopard from escaping. The officials have also brought in a cage to trap the leopard and take it to safety.
Instances of human-animal conflict have increased in the areas near Aravalli range as leopards and hyenas often stray into human habitations in search of water and food.
On November 24, a two-and-a-half-year-old leopard was beaten to death by villagers at Mandawar village in Sohna after it had strayed into the village’s residential area. Since then, the villagers have reported sighting leopards several times.
On the night of April 17, a leopard was reportedly sighted in the DLF Golf Course though the authorities did not find any pugmarks or signs to suggest a leopard was there.
