A five-member wildlife team started a combing operation in Sohna on Monday night after villagers spotted a leopard and informed the wildlife department. Officials said they found nothing at the spot pointed out by the villagers but will they stay in the area to avoid any untoward situation in the wake of rising incidents of man-animal conflict in the region.

On Saturday, an eight-year-old male leopard was released into the Aravallis after it was safely rescued from the Maruti Suzuki plant in Manesar.

“A five-member team rushed to the spot after we got a call from the villagers regarding sighting of a leopard. The sighting was near the Sohna tourist complex. The area comes under Aravalli forest and there are leopards and other wildlife species in the area,” Vinod Kumar, conservator of wildlife, south Haryana.

The wildlife team was informed about the leopard sighting around 8pm on Monday.

In 2008, a four-year-old leopard was caught from a farmhouse in Sohna, while last year in November, a two-and-half-year-old leopard was killed at Mandawar village in the presence of wildlife and police officials.

This year, in March, a leopard was rescued from a village at Durga Colony in Sohna.

All these past cases around the same area have made the wildlife department act swiftly whenever a leopard sighting is reported.
