Gurgaon: South City 1 residents want broken roads repaired

The colony is one among the areas to be taken over by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for maintenance.

South City 1 residents have been complaining about the bad roads in the area for the last several years. Residents got a few lanes repaired after spending form their pockets but the developer and the civic agencies have turned a blind eye to the problem.

The colony is one among the areas to be taken over by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for maintenance.

Residents alleged that despite paying taxes and maintenance, there are no proper roads in the colony. “The civic agencies have forced us to put up with dusty, broken roads with no immediate end to our misery in sight,” Rakesh Singh of block M said.

Block M road connects to Sector 30/40 and has a high volume of traffic. “The colony road was laid seven years ago and after that never repaired. Senior citizens cannot walk on the roads as they are not levelled. So many motorists have skidded on the road,” Jitender Prakash of M block said.

“Riding on the road in its current state can break a motorist’s back. But, those living in the neighbourhood have to ply on this stretch daily as they have no choice. The authorities will have to repair the roads, else residents will not pay taxes and maintenance charges,” Renuka Singh, a resident, said.

“All other roads’ carpeting is taken up by the MCG and the reason for negligence of our area is not understandable. I hope the authorities concerned take a serious note of this,” Reen Singh, an MNC employee, said.

The developers of South City 1 and 2 have not obtained completion certificates, which will be issued to them only after they complete the remaining work in these colonies. The MCG said the transfer can happen only when the proposed infrastructure and other key services are completed by the developers. “We have already sanctioned Rs 13 crore for development works in South 1 and 2 but this money can be spent only after the transfer happens,” Rohit Yadav, joint commissioner, MCG, said.
