The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has sought seven days to restore service roads on both sides of the carriageway of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway between Rajiv Chowk and Kherki Daula toll plaza. The assurance was given by a senior corporation official in the highway administrator’s court in Gurgaon on Thursday during a hearing of the petition filed by highway concessionaire MCEPL.

The highway administrator asked the MCG to involve both the NHAI and the independent consultant in the repair work and carry out works as per the NHAI standards. The next date of hearing is June 24 but the corporation will have to file a status report a day before, said court no 4 of the highway administration.

An official of the highway authority said there is a standard code for using material and process to be followed even in case of temporary repairs.

The case was filed by MCEPL against MCG for regularly failing to honour its commitments made with regard to repairing the road, diverting sewage from villages and unauthorised colonies. “We were forced to file the case because nothing was happening from the MCG’s side despite the seriousness of the problem. With the monsoon on the anvil, potholes could lead to serious accidents as the service lanes get waterlogged on the stretch between Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula,” said S Raghuraman, CEO, MCEPL.

There is a serious risk of waterlogging on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, particularly at Hero Honda Chowk, as the work on expanding Badshahpur drain, Khandsa drain and another drain from Rajiv Chowk to Khandsa along the highway is still pending.

Raghuraman said there is a serious danger of accidents as large potholes have developed on the service roads, which the MCG will have to repair immediately.
