Earlier, news agency PTI reported that the minor girl was the daughter of Pawar's personal assistant. However, Pune Police confirmed to HT that she was instead the daughter of someone known to Rohit Pawar.

Police said an investigation was underway and the case was being examined from all angles.

Preliminary reports suggest that the girl went missing on Saturday night after a minor argument with her mother. A missing-person complaint was subsequently filed.

Her body was later found near her home in the Sai Ganesh Nagar area of Rui in Baramati. Police and a forensic team reached the spot.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of her death.

This is a developing story. More details awaited.
