Karnataka police on Thursday booked expelled BJP leader and Vijayapura City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and two others for attempting to delete the names of eight genuine living voters during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, said officers.

The Vijayapura case is the ninth FIR registered in the state in connection with allegations surrounding attempts to remove voters during the SIR exercise.
The FIR was registered on a complaint by Abdul Razak Bagwan, a vegetable vendor who alleged that he had been falsely declared dead and that a death certificate was used in an attempt to remove his name from the electoral roll.

“Eight people, including Bagwan, had come forward to say they were alive after their names were linked to death certificates. Three women publicly displayed their identity documents and copies of the certificates on Wednesday, demanding criminal action against those responsible,” said a police officer.
