The Congress party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Jyotiraditya Scindia, lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, which completed four years in office earlier this week, saying the current regime had undone the economic gains of the United Progressive Alliance government.

“It is not about liberal economy or socialism but liberal economy and socialism,” Scindia said. “The Congress model for 10 years was India realising its full (economic) potential and the excess revenue being used to create not islands but oceans of development,” the Congress leader said in response on a question related to the economic policies of the present government.

Scindia was speaking at a panel discussion titled, ‘India at 71: Hits and misses’ following the release of Congress lawmaker and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s book of writings ‘Straight Talk’. “We have had enough Mann ki Baat…There is a need to listen to what the people want,” the Guna MP said, taking a dig at the PM’s monthly radio address. He said the last session of Parliament had seen “disruptions fomented by the government for the first time”.
