The Jammu and Kashmir police have closed the case against its deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Yasir Qadri, who was accused of killing a 26-year-old during a police raid on his residence in the wake of ongoing protests in Kashmir over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
Additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta submitted the closure report in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court on Monday. He informed the bench headed by justice NV Ramana that a decision to file a closure report was taken after the victim’s parents and sister turned hostile.
Mehta said the family got its statements recorded before a magistrate and admitted their son, Shabir Ahmed Mir, was leading a mob of stone pelters against security forces who were shooting pellets at the protesters.
Mir got injured due to pellets and later succumbed to his injuries. His postmortem, conducted after the top court ordered exhumation of his body, established Mir died due to pellet injuries and not bullets as alleged earlier.
The law officer said in the wake of fresh statements, the investigation against Qadri required no further probe.
