The attackers targeted Srinivas while he was going to inspect an under-construction bar and restaurant building on Mulabagilu road in Srinivasapur taluk, police officials said.

According to eyewitnesses, the six masked assailants, wielding knives and other weapons, attacked Srinivas. The Congress leader suffered grievous injuries on his chest and head, resulting in severe bleeding. He was rushed to R L Jalappa Hospital in Kolar where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Prima facie, it seems that political and personal rivalry due to property is main cause of murder,” Kolar superintendent of police M Narayan told HT. “During the preliminary investigation, a dog team was deployed at the crime scene, where a bag containing lethal weapons was discovered.
