The widespread violence and vandalism by fringe groups across the country over the release of Sanjay Leena Bhansali’s Padmaavat have led to a huge outcry on social media.
Members of Shri Rajput Karni Sena — the Rajput organisation spearheading the protests in several states — attacked a school bus near Sohna road in Gurgaon on Wednesday as the agitation against the controversial period drama intensified across the country a day ahead of the film’s release.
A video capturing the incident showed frightened children cowering on the floor and crying as vandals pelted stones and smashed window panes of the bus they were travelling in.
Many people took to Twitter and lashed out at the agitators for holding the states to ransom. People also vented their anger on state governments, alleging them of giving the rioters a free run.
Children of my country shiver with fear and cry....as karni Sena attacks a school bus....The elected Government looks the other way..The opposition party diplomatically reacts...aren’t u all ashamed to trade our children’s safety ..for ur vote bank politics..#justasking— Prakash Raj (@prakashraaj) January 24, 2018
Maybe if Karni Sena enrolled into JNU some action might be taken against them— Tanmay Bhat (@thetanmay) January 24, 2018
Going forward, every director must show their movies to the entire nation before their release to ensure that no community, or no one gets offended of its content.— Aladdin (@Alllahdin) January 25, 2018
Pellets and bullets are reserved for protesters in Kashmir. Karni Sena and Ram Rahim supporters get free publicity, state protection and impunity. Horrified to see the video of Gurgaon bus attack. Thoughts with the kids who had to go through this.— Shehla Rashid (@Shehla_Rashid) January 24, 2018
Can I just say Karni Sena was very much a bunch of criminals even if they hadn't attacked a school bus? The pretend voices from cowardly BJP supporters condemning them NOW, after the school bus, were silent when they beat up the film crew & offered bounties for beheading.— वरुण (@varungrover) January 25, 2018
One of the biggest problems is the oxygen being given to Karni Sena by inviting them on prime time. The publicity given to them is what fuels their acts because it leads to more publicity.— Arnab Ray (@greatbong) January 25, 2018
Dear Karni Sena members if you have any political ambitions then forget about it because you’ve already collected a lot of bad PR for yourself. How dare you attack innocent children?— Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) January 25, 2018
And now pls look at your foolish self in the mirror and chant-
"Jaisi Karni waisi bharni."
I am all for Rajpur pride and valour but what they did today in Gurugram is utterly shameful. No true Rajput should tolerate what the Karni Sena and its sympathizers did today with school kids.— Shubhendu (@BBTheorist) January 24, 2018
Actually what karni sena is doing is more derrogatory to Rajput pride than padmavat movie would ever be ..wonder where is the common sense— Anubhav khare (@khareanubhav) January 24, 2018
If pellet guns were used in #Kashmir to fight stone pelters & those who were fighting against the nation then why not the same treatment against the goons of #KarniSena who hv also created a situation of anarchy? #ArrestLokendraKalvi #IWillSeePadmaavat #IndiaWithPadmaavat— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) January 25, 2018

Some chose acerbic humour to hit back at the fringe outfit.
Don't watch #Padmaavat in 3D. An arrow flying in your direction might be an actual arrow by Karni Sena.— Shuchi Singh Kalra (@shuchikalra) January 25, 2018
An epic scene from the movie Padmaavat where streets of Ahmedabad committing "Jauhar" in order to save Rajput Pride. (2018)— History of India (@RealHistoryPic) January 23, 2018
Relax guys, don’t outrage over #KarniSena and their vandalism. I completely trust BJP. The day BJP comes to power, they will take care of such goons with ease...— The-Lying-Lama (@KyaUkhaadLega) January 25, 2018

"Wow! This war scene looks so realistic"
"Oh Wait! No! The Karni Sena has entered the theatre"
Loved the climax in #Padmaavat when everyone was worried about Karni Sena waiting for them outside the multiplex.— Trendulkar (@Trendulkar) January 25, 2018
Karni Sena has categorically proved that India scores very, very high on 'ease of doing terrorism', helped significantly by state Governments.— Karthik (@beastoftraal) January 25, 2018
The Karni Sena has said that the organisation won’t allow the release of Padmaavat at any cost, even as the Supreme Court has asked all state governments to ensure safe screening of the movie.
