A team of experts has finalised the design of the under-construction sanctum sanctorum of Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, which is likely to be opened for public in December 2023, people familiar with the matter said.

“The sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Mandir is being designed in such a way that sunrays fall on Ram Lalla on every Ram Navami at noon,” said Champat Rai, general secretary of the temple trust.

According to the people cited above, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had suggested to the temple trust that the sanctum sanctorum be constructed on the lines of Odisha’s Konark Sun temple, so that sunlight falls directly on the deity.

“This superstructure of Ram temple is being constructed using carved sandstones from Rajasthan’s Bansi Paharpur district,” he added.

“Around 4.75 lakh cubic feet of Bansi Paharpur stones will be used for the temple’s superstructure. At present, approximately 50 per cent of stones have been carved and are available for use,” Rai said.
