President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday took a ride on the Delhi Metro, accompanied by tight security and interacted with school students. This was the first time Murmu took a ride in the metro after assuming the office of the president. In a video shared by the news agency ANI, Murmu was observed talking with a metro official who was briefing her on the metro system. The video highlighted her interaction with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials.
"President Droupadi Murmu travelled in Delhi Metro and interacted with school children during the ride," the Rashtrapati Bhavan wrote on X, sharing pictures of the ride.
“President Murmu also flagged off a shuttle bus service between Central Secretariat metro station (gate no 4) and Amrit Udyan (gate no 35) for visitors coming to Amrit Udyan, which runs every 30 minutes from 9.30 am to 5 pm,” it added.
President Murmu engaged in lively conversations with metro officers, asking questions throughout the journey. Dressed in a graceful yellow saree, her metro ride became a focal point on social media, with photographers capturing the moments.

{{/usCountry}}Murmu is the second incumbent President of India to utilise the Delhi Metro for travel. Back in 2012, then-President Pratibha Patil had also taken a ride on the metro.
As reported by PTI, Murmu engaged with students during her metro journey, inquiring about their future career aspirations, according to officials.
Her metro trip commenced at the Central Secretariat station along the Kashmere Gate – Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line route. She travelled to the Nehru Place station and then returned to Central Secretariat, completing the journey.
The Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Vikas Kumar, accompanied the president during her journey. Kumar briefed the president about various aspects of DMRC's operations and provided updates on ongoing construction projects.
President Murmu used an NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) RuPay card for her travel on the system. Expressing her thoughts in the visitor's book, the president praised the Delhi Metro and described her journey as enjoyable.
She commended the Delhi Metro as “one of the most modern and efficient mass transit systems globally.” Murmu further said that Delhi Metro's performance is exceptional across all key parameters, bringing pride to the nation.
