The Rajasthan police have booked five people for killing a man and grievously injuring another on the intervening night of July 16 and 17 in Chittorgarh’s Bhainsroadgarh on the suspicion of being police informers.
One of the accused has been taken into custody and a hunt is on for the others, police said. The two men – Prabhu Lal Meena (40) and Mukesh Meena (32) – were abducted from Pratappura and Kotharikakua villages in two cars.
“The two men were taken to a deserted area in the forests of Pratappura and tied to a tree,” said Rawatbhata (Chittorgarh) additional superintendent of police Bhawani Shankar Meena.
The police officer said five men, Arjun Singh, Vimal Dhakar, Jameel, Iqbal and Kuka Dhakar who are drug smugglers and peddlers were drunk and beat the two men suspecting that they provided information that led to the arrest of another drug peddler named Shyamlal Dhakar in Ajmer on July 8.
After the assault, the five men dumped Mukesh Meena outside his house and threw the body of Prabhu Lal Meena on road in Bhainsroadgarh. The families of the two men had already lodged a complaint with the police that they were missing.
Police took Mukesh Meena to a hospital in Rawatbhata where he told them that the five had beaten him and Prabhu Lal Meena on suspicion that they were police informers.
The additional SP said during probe they found that the accused were also planning to abduct and murder police constable Dinesh Meena, posted at Kachya police outpost. The accused believed that the policeman was instrumental in the arrest of Dhakar.
The police officer said a case under sections 147, 148, 149, 341, 392 and 364 of the IPC and section 3 (II) of the SC/ST Atrocity Act has been lodged against all the five accused. “Police have rounded up Arjun Singh and hunting for the others,” he added.
“Mukesh Meena and Prabhu Lal Meena knew constable Dinesh Meena so the accused thought that information from the two led to the arrest of Shyamlal Dhakar. The fact is both these men are daily-wage labourers,” the officer said.
He said the accused are involved in smuggling of opium and poppy husk. “Several police teams have been formed to arresting the absconding accused,” the officer said.
