Congress president Rahul Gandhi said the Supreme Court’s order asking Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa to prove majority in the state assembly vindicates the party’s stand that the governor Vajubhai Vala acted “unconstitutionally”.
“... The BJP’s bluff that it will form the government, even without the numbers, has been called out by the court. Stopped legally, they will now try money & muscle, to steal the mandate,” Gandhi tweeted on Friday after the apex court directed that the floor test be conducted after all elected MLAs have taken oaths.
BJP’s Yeddyurappa was sworn-in on Thursday as the chief minister after the Karnataka governor invited him to form the government and gave him 15 days to prove majority.
The crucial May 12 elections threw up a hung assembly, with the BJP winning the most seats but remaining eight seats short of the halfway mark (112). The Congress bagged 78 seats , the Janata Dal (Secular) got 37 seats, and the three constituencies were won by Independents and a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate.
