A stalker allegedly hacked a 23-year-old woman to death when she was on her way to fetch water with her aunt, uncle and sister in Agra’s Khandoli town on Saturday, police said.
Police said Dilip Kumar, who had been harassing Rehnuma for the past six years, allegedly waylaid and killed her with an axe.
Rehnuma’s uncle and sister, who tried to intervene, were also injured in the attack, the police added.
The murder sparked tensions as the accused and the victim belong to different communities.
“The accused was arrested from New Agra area on Sunday,” said police superintendent (city) Prashant Verma. “His family members have also been rounded up.”
Police said Kumar was arrested earlier too after he attacked Rehnuma’s uncle but had to be released as he allegedly enjoyed patronage of a local politician.
