Two persons of a family died and another member is undergoing treatment due to suspected food poisoning in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district, officials said.

The deceased were identified as Rasheeda Beevi (58) and her son-in-law Shaji (42), natives of Nilamel in Kollam district. Shaji’s wife is undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
According to health officials, the family of six members ate a seafood meal at a restaurant in Vizhinjam on Monday, following which they began complaining of vomiting, nausea and general sickness. While three members reported symptoms of food poisoning, three others, including two children, did not report any complainants. The two persons died while undergoing treatment in government hospitals in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.
The restaurant, specialising in seafood and visited by hundreds, has been shut down by health officials as a precautionary measure.
Officials said that whether the deaths were due to food poisoning can only be ascertained after detailed examinations of the samples.
