Two employees of Karnal’s Bastara toll plaza sustained bullet injuries on Saturday when some commuters fired at them after they refused to give them exemption in toll.

Deepak Kumar, an employee at the toll, said that four-five people, under the influence of liquor, reached the toll plaza in a car around 3am and they asked the toll collector for exemption. When he refused, they manhandled him. The other employees also intervened.
“We called the police and when we were talking to the accused in the presence of cops, one of their associates suddenly came forward and opened fire in which two employees, Ashish Kumar and Ram Phal, sustained bullet injuries,” he said.
They were rushed to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital, Karnal, where their condition was stable, he added.
Meanwhile, the police arrested the miscreants, who were identified as Pankaj Vadhwa of Ghraunda, Karnal, Parth Kumar and Nishank of Kurukshetra, Simranjeet Singh of Safidon, Jind, Harish Pal of Tohana and Ankit Kumar of Mahmudpur of Karnal city.
They were booked under Section 148, 149, 323, 506 and 307 of the IPC and the Arms Act, police said.
