A man allegedly hid inside a box in a widow’s room for three days before being discovered and beaten by villagers. Along with the woman, he was then paraded through the village in Jalaun’s Kalpi area on Wednesday, police said.
The man, a resident of the Kuthaund police station area, was allegedly staying in contact with the widow and had been hiding in the box during the day, coming out at night. According to the police and accounts of locals, the two are related by marriage.
The man was discovered after the woman’s sister-in-law heard a noise coming from the box and opened it, reportedly thinking there was a rat inside.

She found the man hiding in it and raised an alarm, following which family members and villagers gathered.

According to accounts of locals, the man had left his home about three months ago following a dispute with his wife and had subsequently been in contact with the widow. He had allegedly been staying at her house for the past three days.

No complaint has been filed by the woman so far. SHO Kalpi Kotwali Ajay Brahm Tiwari said that the police were examining the matter and would take legal action if a complaint was received.
