Kanpur, A fast track court has sentenced two brothers to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a married woman for nearly three months in Etawah in 2021. Their mother was sentenced to four years' imprisonment for aiding the offence, case officials said on Wednesday.
Rakesh Singh, a Judge of Fast Track Court-41, convicted Anvaar and Chhotu, both residents of Etawah district, on charges of gang-rape and kidnapping on Tuesday.
Besides the 20-year rigourous imprisonment for gang-rape, the court imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each convict. They were also awarded five years' imprisonment and fined ₹5,000 each under Section 366 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code.
Their mother, Usha Devi, was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and fined ₹2,000 under Section 368 IPC, besides one year's imprisonment under Section 342 IPC for wrongful confinement.
Additional District Government Counsel Jitendra Kumar Pandey said the prosecution examined five witnesses during the trial. The court relied on the survivor's testimony and medical evidence while convicting the accused.
