Shreyas Iyer says he is ‘tired’ of questions over his non-selection in the Indian team, despite him presenting a strong case over the last few years for Mumbai.

Iyer, who will lead the Indian Board President’s XI in the two warm-up matches against New Zealand, had finished as the highest run-scorer in the recently-concluded unofficial four-day Test series against New Zealand ‘A’ with 190 runs in two matches.

Even in the unofficial ODI series, Iyer scored 127 in two matches.

The right-handed batsman topped the charts in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy with 1,321 runs with four centuries and seven fifties in 11 matches and had fared decently with 725 runs in 10 games at 42.64 in the season that followed.

He was also called up as injury cover for Virat Kohli in the final Test against Australia at Dharamsala earlier this year.

On Monday, when fronted with the question of his selection again, Iyer told reporters, “No, I’m tired of this question, to be honest. I wouldn’t like to reply at all. I think I’ve given all my answers previously. Again and again I don’t want to talk over it.”

“As I told you before, my job is to keep performing. I won’t be thinking what the selectors are thinking at all,” Iyer said when pressed for an answer.

“When you have runs backing you up, you can go in with full confidence. When you get a good start again in a new game, you see to it that you convert them into big scores. But whatever runs I have scored is in the past now. Tomorrow is a new day, and I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

Iyer shrugged when asked if it was hard to be motivated in such a scenario. He said, “My motivation is enjoying cricket, and that’s what I do. I love playing cricket. It’s my passion. I love to score in every match, and that’s what my aim is every time I go to the ground.”
