In six months from now, Gurgaon police will be able to keep an eye on almost every ‘sensitive’ spot from the comfort of their central control room.
The Haryana government has awarded a contract for installing 173 closed-circuit cameras for surveillance on the Gurgaon expressway and in malls, offices of multinationals, bus stands and railway stations.
The cameras to be installed by Zicom Electronic Security Systems can pan (follow an object as it moves in a plane), tilt (up and down) and zoom (record close ups or wide angle images, as required).
Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal told Hindustan Times that the project would cost Rs 8.5 crore.
The new surveillance system will not only watch human movement but also traffic signal violations. It can automatically record vehicle registration plates and produce challans.
Closed circuit cameras that are already installed in malls and MNC offices will also be integrated with the system.Lal said the cameras’ live footage would be available to not only the policemen in the control room but also to senior police officers on their computers.
The 173-camera surveillance system is part of a comprehensive electronics surveillance system planned for all National Capital Region towns, said Lal.
