Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Bhupendra Kainthola was appointed as director of Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Friday.

A 1989 batch IIS officer, Kainthola has been appointed to the post for three years, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

He replaced Prashant Pathrabe who was brought in when the institute was in news over the controversial appointment of television actor Gajendra Chauhan as its chairman,
FTII, an autonomous body under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is the country’s premier institute that provides training for acting, film making, video editing, direction and production.
