The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday promised to implement the employment guarantee scheme inurban areas too, if elected to power. “Within 100 days of forming the government, we will implement the employment guarantee scheme, which so far covers only the rural areas, to the entire country. We will ensure that unemployed people are given ‘unemployment allowance’ in case they don’t get jobs,” Malhotra said.

Malhotra blamed the congress for diverting people’s attention from important issues like inflation and unemployment that affect the entire country.

He added that many people have committed suicide in Delhi after losing their jobs. “We will implement the scheme in Delhi too as thousands of people have lost their jobs in the last couple of months in Delhi and two crore people have lost their jobs in the past five years. In Delhi, over five lakh persons are registered in employment exchanges and the Delhi government could provide jobs to only 700 people and now they have put a ban on giving jobs. The BJP will try to end unemployment on priority basis,” said Malhotra.
