# Business for local newspapers faced a washout as the downpour affected operations. The Hindu’s editor tweeted earlier in the day that they would not be able to publish their newspaper on Wednesday as the printing press was inaccessible. This is reportedly the first time that an edition could not be printed in the paper’s 137-year-old history.

A number of videos have emerged over the past two days on social media showing the rising level of water in the city -- including footage of the Adyar river spilling over the Saidapet Bridge.

# Another video, which was trending by midday, shows a man caught in the sheer force of the floodwaters. Shot from inside a car, the video shows people running to the man’s aid, linking hands to form a chain to haul him to safety. The video is being described as a testament to the spirit of the people in Chennai.

# Heartwarming stories such as the one in the video have also been broadcast through the social networking platform, in addition to the SOS tweets. Another story that has gone viral is one of Radha the milk maid. Twitter user S. Ramanathan tweeted a picture of a woman wading through knee-deep water, carrying a bucket. She has been delivering milk for 25 years and did not fail to do so even as the floods in the city worsened on Wednesday. “Mom asked if she needed help and all she said was, ‘Come down and take the milk’,” he tweeted.
