Sikar superintendent of police Haider Ali Zaidi and a senior officer at police headquarters in Jaipur got calls from one Sanjiv Sharma, who requested them to make arrangements for the visit by 'DG (IB)' RK Gupta to Khatu Shyam temple in Sikar, the police said.

Both Sharma and Gupta are Delhi residents and, along with their accomplice Gopi Chand and driver Ramveer, reached Khatu Shyam town on Sunday midnight in an SUV that donned a military flag.

The police made arrangements for their stay at an inn near the temple, about 110 km from Jaipur. In fact, the police had made plans to facilitate their visit to the temple.

However, Zaidi said, he got suspicious by the manner in which the 'colonel' made the request for Gupta's visit.

"I inquired about Gupta's cadre at which Sharma got irritated. Thereafter we inquired from IB and PMO and came to know that no such officer was posted there," said Zaidi.

An additional superintendent of police went to meet the four and asked them about their identity cards, which they could not furnish. But a search yielded Sharma's fake I-card that identified him as a colonel.

The four have been booked for impersonation, said in-charge of Khatu Shyam police station Hem Raj.
