They’ve travelled across India in search of good food, but Rocky Singh and Mayur Sharma, hosts of the TV show Highway On My Place, didn’t have their first meeting over a lunch. In fact, it was when the former saved the latter from a bunch of bullies.

“I was walking down the street and I saw three guys beating up this skinny little kid. I saved him... and it turned out to be little Mayur, who followed me around for 2-3 years and suddenly became a lot bigger,” quips Rocky.

Now their show on NDTV Good Times has gone international, with the duo travelling to places such as Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. Both have favourites. “I loved Singapore — the people are emotionally connected to their food,” says Rocky. For Mayur, it’s Sri Lanka, “because it’s reminiscent of India.”

As for dealing with the language barrier faced abroad, they say, “The simple thing to do is point at something and point at your mouth.” Adds Rocky, “It’s interesting to see how people eat off the street, because eating street food is like being in love — you play with it, twist and turn it and when it’s perfect, you know it,” Rocky signs off.
