THE GORAKHPUR bandh call given by traders’ organisations evoked a good response here on Thursday. Business establishments remained closed for the day. Local people preferred to stay inside their houses and the general hustle-bustle on the streets was missing. Traders’ organisations took out a procession and burnt the effigy of the State Government at Court Crossing.

Shops of all main markets like Golghar, Buxipur, Urdu Bazaar, Shahmaroof, Gorakhnath, Ali Nagar, Nakhas Chowk, Jafra Bazar, Reti Road, Railway Station Road, Dharmshala Bazar, Ghanta Ghar, Rustampur, Asuran Chowk, Shahpur remained closed.
The procession started from Buxipur Crossing and converted into a meeting at Court Crossing.
Expressing views state secretary of Gorakhpur Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal Satya Prakash Singh Munna said the bandh was an expression of anger of the traders’ community over the apathetic attitude of the State Government.
He thanked BJP MP Adityanath for his support to the bandh call.
City unit president of the mandal KB Singh and Ramesh Chand Gupta said the apathetic attitude of the government over the 11-point memorandum of traders’ had caused resentment among them. They demanded the government should consider the demands sympathetically.
