Lt Gen Nandrajog is new Central Command chief

Nandrajog assumed the post on Sunday after the previous incumbent, Lt Gen R Subramanayam, retired from service.

Lt Gen OP Nandrajog is the new chief of the Indian Army's Lucknow-based Central Command.

Nandrajog assumed the post on Sunday after the previous incumbent, Lt Gen R Subramanayam, retired from service. Nandrajog was earlier commander of 10 Corps.

An alumnus of Punjab Public School at Nabha, Nandrajog was commissioned into the Brigade of the Guards in 1967. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the National Defence College, New Delhi.

Nandrajog has held various staff and command assignments, including command of two brigades in Jammu and Kashmir and a stint as the military attaché in Sweden. He also saw action during the 1971 war with Pakistan.
