Pranab goes public in Pilibhit, woos Bengalis

In a change in campaign strategy, the Congress sent the UPA government’s seniormost Cabinet minister — Pranab Mukherjee — to address rallies in UP’s Pilibhit district.

The finance minister, who till now had restricted himself to press conferences in Punjab, Uttarakhand and even UP, delivered speeches in Pilibhit — which has a large concentration of Bengalis — in Hindi and English.

“While his press conferences were effective, public rallies by the seniormost cabinet minister will certainly have a different appeal,” a party poll manager said.
