She was elected to head the RJD legislature party at a meeting of the newly elected RJD MLAs and its members in the legislative council, state party president Abdul Bari Siddiqui told reporters.

He said almost all party legislators were present during the election. The RJD members of the bicameral legislature held the meeting at Rabri's residence where former minister Jagadanand Singh moved the proposal for her election which was accepted unanimously.

Rabri Devi has been authorised to nominate the office bearers of RJD legislative groups in the two houses of legislature, Siddiqui added.

RJD has 54 MLAs in the newly elected 243-member assembly.
