Police said, acting on specific tip-offs about the presence of Pollendro Marak in Bugakol area under Dainadubi police outpost, an ambush was laid on Sunday.

On sighting the police, Maraka fired at them. The police retaliated, killing the militant on the spot.

A 9mm pistol, a mobile set and several SIM cards and other documents were seized from the slain rebel.

The PLFM was formed more than a decade back, but police say the group would fold itself with the killing of Marak as he was the only surviving prominent leader.

The group was engaged in a series of kidnappings and extortion activities in the north-western parts of the state.
