Ever since the Delhi gang rape case became a hotly debated topic in December, the subject of women’s safety has remained under the scanner. Several groups have come together with the aim of highlighting the issue and finding ways to deal with it — be it through cinema, art, music or theatre. The latest is a two-day theatre festival, titled Women.Now. To be held on July 4 and 5, it will showcase two plays that offer insight into the subjugated state of women in India and abroad.

Produced by Ace Productions, both the plays — Untitled and Bitter Chocolate — will feature popular theatre actor-director Lushin Dubey. “The plays have been directed by Arvind Gaur with Lushin playing the lead. Untitled talks about the atrocities that women are subjected to across the world. Bitter Chocolate is based on Pinki Virani’s bestseller novel of the same title,” says Raell Padamsee, Ace Productions.Explaining her reasons behind producing such acts, Padamsee says, “The plays are close to my heart as they are based on social issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible. Given the appalling statistics on violence against women and children, we feel it’s time for people in the city to get galvanised into action.”Each show will be followed by a 45-minute interactive session that will see participation from members of the judiciary, police, government bodies and NGOs.
