7 discom employees held after farmer commits suicide in Barwani

Barwani City Kotwali police has registered a case against seven employees of West DISCOM and arrested them on Sunday, in cognizance of the death of a farmer in Kajwani village of the district.

Barwani City Kotwali police has registered a case against seven employees of Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd (West DISCOM) owned by Madhya Pradesh government and arrested them on Sunday, in cognizance of the death of a farmer in Kajwani village of the district.

According to information from Barwani police station, the arrested include Sumer Singh, Genda Lal, Shobha Ram, Shriram, Vikram, Govind and Inder Singh under Section 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code.

Mohan, a 35-year-old farmer and a resident of Kajwani village committed suicide on Saturday by jumping into a well after the accused officials went to his agricultural field to seize a submersible pump fitted in the well after the deceased failed to pay an electricity bill of Rs 7,700.

Angry villagers vandalized a pick-up vehicle and staged a chakka jam on the Sendhwa-Barwani state highway for an hour in the evening on Saturday. They also called the police and demanded action against the officials of the electricity department.

The local administration, however, claimed that the death was a freak accident as the deceased fell into the well after losing balance.
