A massive fire broke out in a chemical and paint godown in Kibe Compound in Chhoti Gwaltoli area of Indore on Tuesday morning.

It took a total of 15 fire tenders and over 1,000 litres of water to douse the 14-feet high flames that also engulfed neighbouring buildings within minutes. No casualties were reported.

The police are still investigating the cause behind the fire and are working to ascertain the estimated losses caused by it.

Meanwhile, some television journalists, who had gone to the spot to cover the incident were allegedly manhandled by the employees of a petrol pump which was only a few metres away from the spot of the fire.

The journalists have lodged a case against the petrol pump employees under section 307, 147, 146 and other sections of IPC. Two employees were arrested on Tuesday evening.

“The employees threatened to kill us and attacked us with iron rods and sticks,” said one of the attacked journalists.

“The journalists have also alleged that a police officer was present at the spot when they were manhandled but he had not intervened. We are also investigating this and if the officer is found guilty, action will be taken against him,” DIG Indore, Santosh Kumar Singh told HT.
