A resident of Indore, he was admitted after he complained of severe congestion and chest pain.

A sample taken from the man was sent for analysis on August 26, the day he was admitted at the hospital.

During the winter months, 499 patients had tested positive for H1N1 during the three-month outbreak in Indore. He is now the first death from flu post winter season outbreak.

"The patient was very critical when he was admitted to the hospital. It is for this reason that we could not save him," said Dr GL Sodi, in-charge of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project.

Dr Sodi said, "Swine flu spreads mostly when the temperatures are low and it's humid. We have passed that stage. These are just some of the cases which happen in very exceptional instances."

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man has been tested positive for H1N1 and is undergoing treatment at Apollo hospital in Indore.
