The sarpanch-pati (husband) of Kalakund village, Jairam Kohli, has alleged that the construction of a culvert connecting Choral and Kalakund was of such poor quality that a major section of it was washed away by rain a few days ago. The stretch of road on either side of the culvert also was washed away.
Though the elected sarpanch of village located some 50 km from Indore city is Nandini Kohli, her husband Jairam Kohli handles almost all of the work that entails the position.
Jairam Kohli has also alleged irregularity in the construction of a crematorium at Utheria village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kalakund panchayat. Talking to Hindustan Times, he said,
“Around Rs 9 lakh had been sanctioned for the work, but only the base work of the crematorium has been done and nothing else.”
He also said the construction of the 7-km road between Choral and Bhatiyakheri, for which Rs 2 crore was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana, is of very poor quality and that the contractor only completed the work till Kalakund, which too was rutted after just a few spells of rain.
Noting that all these projects were undertaken by the rural engineering department during the term of the previous sarpanch, he said a complaint had been lodged with the authorities demanding a thorough probe into the matter.
The executive engineer of rural engineering department, SK Solanki, acknowledged that the culvert had been damaged in the recent rain. "Yes, we have received complaint and we are going to arrange for funds to repair the culvert,” he said.
However, he said he was not aware of the alleged irregularity in construction of the crematorium, and that the contractor was responsible for the incompletion of the road.
