Indore lakes to be developed as tourism spots

Three lakes of Indore will soon be developed as tourism spots including facilities like boating and other attractions. The project will focus on the area around Bilawali, Sirpur and Yeshwant Sagar, and will be co-managed by the district administration.
“Indore has more than 12 lakes to itself but almost all the property is in a bad shape. Encroachments and garbage dumping are some of the common issues which deface the water bodies. We will try and revive them,” said P Narhari, Indore collector.
Removal of encroachments of all kinds including residences of people would be the first step to be taken by the administration in this process.
A survey will also be conducted to find out the actual property of the water body held before encroachments came over. The survey for Sirpur lake has already been completed. “We started off with the survey of Sirpur first and it got completed earlier. We have taken an approximate history of last 100 years. This also includes analysing maps of that time period,” said Narhari.
While the survey is currently being carried out by the district administration, once it is completed the collector expects the involvement of big private players in the project.
