Police and hospital staff broke into the bathroom located on the fifth floor of the 7-storey building after patients in the adjacent medical intensive care unit (MICU) complained of uneasiness due to the stench of the decomposing body.

The incident raises fresh questions about the hygiene and security standards of the government-run hospital that caters to thousands of patients every week.

The deceased is yet to be identified, though he appeared to be around 60 years old, according to MY Hospital police outpost in-charge Jairam Patidar.

Hospital sanitary workers and police jawan prepared a panchnama and took the partially decomposed out of the bathroom. The police are also investigating the reason behind his death.

The hospital administration and housekeeping agency is supposed to ensure that bathrooms in MICU/ICUs are cleaned thrice a day, but it is unclear why no staff member attempted to find out why the door of a bathroom had been locked from the inside for five days.

Attempts to talk to the hospital superintendent, Dr AD Bhattnagar in this connection failed even after several attempts.
