Born and brought up in Indore, Rajesh left the city for Britain in 2001 and grew a two-person enterprise into a multi-million pound business there. He was appointed as the deputy mayor by Mayor Sadiq Khan on Wednesday to boost the city’s interest following the European Union referendum.
Rajesh family has been in Indore for the last two generations. “Our family has always been in private or government jobs,” said Yogesh Agrawal, Rajesh’s elder brother.
A popular figure in London, Rajesh was also the business advisor to Khan during his mayoral campaign. As per media reports, his company RationalFX, an online foreign exchange service, has a massive turnover and he is known for his success in his business venture.
“He was always very passionate about pursuing business interests and moreover doing things which benefit the society in some way or the other,” said Yogesh, who works at a private bank in Indore.
“It is a proud moment for our family that he has made it to such a coveted position. It is a post we never thought he would get when he was leaving Indore,” said Yogesh.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also congratulated Rajesh on Wednesday on Twitter. In a series of tweets, Chouhan stated that he and the London Mayor have a gigantic task at hand which is to safeguard the financial interests of people post Britain’s exit from EU.
