When I think of roll-on deodorants, the first thing that comes to mind is fragrance and the long list of ingredients that often go into them. I decided to put it to the test, using the roll-on consistently for 10 days to see whether this minimalist approach to deodorising actually works.

My first impression

The first thing I noticed was how different it felt from a typical deodorant. There is no strong fragrance, just a clean, almost neutral application. The roll-on glides smoothly over the skin and doesn't leave behind the sticky feeling that some deodorants can.

I applied it to clean, slightly damp underarms as instructed, rolling it on for a few seconds before letting the area dry. The application was quick and mess-free, and I could get dressed without feeling like I had a layer of product sitting on my skin.

Does it actually control odour?

The biggest question, of course, was whether a fragrance-free alum roll-on could actually keep me feeling fresh.

It is not an antiperspirant, so it doesn't stop natural sweating, which is important to remember if sweat reduction is your priority.

The verdict

If you are looking for a fragrance-free, lightweight option for everyday odour control, Phitku’s 100% Alum Roll-On is an interesting alternative to conventional deodorants. I particularly liked that I could use it before a workout, during hot weather and alongside my perfume without the scents competing.

However, if you want to reduce sweating or prefer a deodorant with a noticeable fragrance, this may not be the right fit.

For me, the biggest takeaway was simple: staying fresh doesn't necessarily mean smelling like a deodorant all day. Sometimes, less really is more.
