What is the right way to brush your teeth
1. Choose the right toothbrush: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits comfortably in your mouth. Electric toothbrushes can be more effective at removing plaque.
2. Apply the right amount of toothpaste: Put a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste on your brush.
3. Position the brush correctly: Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gums.
4. Brush gently: Use short, gentle strokes or small circular motions. Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of all your teeth.
Do you brush your tongue?
5. Clean each section: Spend about 30 seconds on each quadrant of your mouth for a total of 2 minutes.
6. Brush your tongue: Gently brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.
7. Spit out and rinse: Spit out the toothpaste when finished, and you may choose to rinse with water or mouthwash (note: some dentists recommend waiting before rinsing to let the fluoride sit longer on your teeth).
8. Replace your toothbrush: Change your toothbrush or toothbrush head every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
"Brushing twice a day, along with flossing daily and visiting your dentist regularly, is essential for oral health," says Dr. Kapadia.
