Lok Sabha elections 2019: Campaigning for Pune, Baramati to end today at 6pm
The total number of voters in Pune are 20,74,861 while in Baramati there are 21,12,408 voters.
Political campaigning for Pune and Baramati constituency for the Lok Sabha elections will stop on April 21 at 6 pm as both the seats go to polls on April 23.
Addressing a press conference, Naval Kishore Ram, Pune district collector, said, “According to the election guidelines, all the political campaigning will stop at 6 pm on April 21. Candidates of political parties as well as independents will have to stop campaigning then.”
He added, “Appropriate action will be taken against the respective candidate or party if anyone is found violating these rules and regulations. We are committed to ensure that the entire polling process takes place in a transparent and peaceful manner.”
As a district collector, I appeal to the citizens of Pune and Baramati to come out in large numbers and vote, Ram said.
The voter turnout in the previous Lok Sabha elections held in 2014 in the Pune constituency was 54 per cent. The total number of voters in Pune are 20,74,861 while in Baramati there are 21,12,408 voters.
A total of 10,021 voter applications were rejected from Pune and Baramati constituency combined. While Pune faced 6,743 rejections, the number of applications rejected from Baramati constituency is 6,728.
Speaking about the preparedness of officials for the polling schedule, Ram said, “A total of 460 zonal officers (Pune-180, Baramati-280) have been given appropriate training with regards to the conduct of the election process. Our response time in critical situations in urban areas is 20 minutes while the same for the rural places is 30 minutes.”
Also, in the city, we have webcasting facility at 226 locations, in Baramati there are 285 locations with webcasting facility, added Ram.
The polling in the district will be conducted in two phases (Pune, Baramati- April 23 and Maval and Shirur - April 29).
